"Get Looser" Workshop
with Souby Boski

Sunday, June 5       12:30-4 pm     #831822-B
In this workshop students will learn how to loosen up and apply their paint in a gestural, painterly manner. Techniques and observations will be shared on what it takes to "loosen-up" your paintings. The common denominator is simplification. The more you simplify what you do, the more it frees your mind to concentrate on staying loose. Students will practice using bigger brushes, more paint and working faster. Color will be taken to unexpected new places!  A supply list will be provided upon registration. Students should bring several canvases in preferred sizes and most importantly REFERENCE photos! “Everyone has their own favorite colors, brushes, mediums, canvases. Any supplies you have will be fine!” says instructor Souby. Upstairs

Artsplace is pleased to offer this special, new workshop which includes two 35-minute videos in addition to the two class sessions! Watching the videos in advance will save valuable classroom time, allowing more time for student painting. Onsite, students will paint from the same reference photo that Will demonstrated in the videos. Additional onsite exercises will provide more confidence in oil painting. William McCarthy, has over 50 years’ experience as a professional fine-artist. He remarks, “I know that my best oil paintings develop out of memories of landscapes from both the recent and distant past. I understand the creative process that is best for me and I know what to do with it. I know my method will work for you!” View Will's work at: www.williammccarthyart.com.
Video 1 “Discussion on supplies and materials” followed by Will’s landscape painting demonstration. Get comfortable with what you will be painting yourself!
Video 2 “Finish Your Landscape Painting!” Demonstration will be the technique of dry brush, followed by glazing tips. Cropping/framing artwork discussed.
Students will be emailed a link to videos prior to onsite classes. All levels (teens/adults) are welcome ~ workshop is a great refresher for students with prior oil experience.
