Become an Instructor

Artsplace is always looking for talented instructors!
Please make an appointment prior to visiting our location, as we will not be able to conduct interviews, review portfolios, or offer tours without prior arrangements.
Before applying be certain you fulfill these requirements:
  1. You must have teaching experience in art.  Teaching experience that occurred on a volunteer basis is also acceptable.
  2. Suitable references must be provided by non-relatives.
  3. You must be able to provide a sample portfolio that exhibits your artistic style.
If you would like to be considered for a teaching position, please fill out the class proposal form and the lesson plan sheet (there are PDF versions of both further down on this page). Complete these forms and submit them by email to [email protected] or return it to our location during regular business hours (Mon-Fri 9am-4pm) at 493 West Main Street, 2nd Floor, Ball & Socket Building 2, in Cheshire.

How to Fill Out Our Proposal & Lesson Plan Forms

 Proposal Form
  1. Fill out one proposal form for each class or workshop idea you’d like us to review.
  2. State the proposed title of your class/workshop.
  3. State the goal of your class/workshop (ex. “mix paint colors, successfully shade with charcoal, or paint a tree using acrylics, develop a composition, carve a wooden spoon, etc.)
  4. Submit: 3-4 sentences to describe your class to a potential interested participant. State the objectives, what skills will be taught, and what the expected final product of the course will be. Visit the main page of our website to see current examples.
  5. Attach a photo representing the class/workshop if possible.
  6. Select an age group you would like to offer your program to: Preschool-kindergarten, elementary grades 1-3, elementary grades 4-6, teens, teens/adults, or adults only.
  7. Determine the length of your class/workshop (Most adult workshops run between 2-2.5 hours, though some run longer. Most kids classes are 1-1.5 hours and will repeat for 5 weeks, totaling 5-7.5 hours. Most teen/adult classes are 2-2.5 hours and will repeat for 6 weeks, totaling 12-15 hours).
  8. Include your schedule of availability and desired working hours of am, pm, weekday or weekends.

Lesson Plan Sheet
Please provide a description of what you plan to teach each day of your class. Include warm ups, progress you'd like to make with ongoing lessons, and the ultimate goal of each day (i.e. "Students will develop a better sense of composition when setting up their still life").

Once we receive your proposals, lesson plan sheet, and resume, we will contact you to discuss and potentially set up an appointment. You should bring your portfolio or art samples to that meeting. If you have any questions about Artsplace or these instructions, feel free to call us at (203)272-2787. We look forward to connecting with you!

Best,
