This class is an opportunity to learn about drawing, observation and seeing the subject in both traditional and new ways. Different drawing concepts will be introduced and explored each week, including lines, scale, shading, texture and composition. Students will draw from a still life set-up. There will be plenty of guidance for each student from the instructor.

New students will learn blending and layering techniques required to create works of art suitable for framing. Returning students will continue to work on their own projects with help and guidance from the instructor. New techniques may be learned to enhance their skills and provide the ability to tackle more complex compositions. This workshop welcomes artists of all skill levels to the expressive, forgiving qualities of charcoal through a drapery chiaroscuro (the treatment of light and shade in drawing and painting) study. Students will explore foundational techniques in sketching and shading to build their understanding of depth, lighting and proportion. In addition to traditional reductive work, students will have the option of tones paper and white charcoal to explore a different approach to these classic methods. (Adults & Teens) (1 day)

Explore the many joys and challenges of painting with watercolor. Each week will include a short demo to get us warmed up and instructor suggestions for paintings which may span more than one class. Students may bring their own reference or simply choose to work from the provided ideas. Whether you are new to this medium or just want to dedicate time during your week to practice and improve your skill, this class offers something for you. Join me while we explore a variety of techniques and subjects. Students will be encouraged to work on composition and values as well as color mixing and water control. (Adults) (6 weeks)

Overcome the mysteries of the sewing machine and discover how fun and easy it can be! Learn the basics of machine sewing including threading, operating and troubleshooting. Practice using the machine and then move on to simple projects for yourself or for gift-giving. Students will learn a variety of skills including piecing, applique and quilting. Projects will include a 4-patch pin cushion, Boho bags, zippered pouch, or pillow covers. Previous students are welcome to attend and work on their own projects. (Ages 15-Adults) (5 weeks)

Mah Jong is a fascinating, rummy-like game played with tiles rather than cards. It originated in China and is enjoying a resurgence in popularity with players around the state. This class will allow you to become familiar with the elementary principles of the game in a supportive and positive class experience. You'll get playing in no time!
