Creative Explorations Through Cement Sculpture --- This workshop is NOT a “pour wet cement onto a big leaf” workshop. In this workshop you will learn a bit about the creative process and nuances practiced by many pros. The instructor will walk you through some brainstorming to help bring out the you that you might not have known before. Then you will jump right into getting your hands dirty working your design into the cement. Why cement? Well, it’s messy and fun. It’s relatively easy to work with, and unlike clay sculpture, you don’t need an expensive kiln to harden it. Go home with a well thought out cement sculpture to be proud of!

Experience the joys and challenges of using the palette knife in this one-day workshop. Learn to add texture and highlights and a little edge, to mix colors right on your canvas and enjoy the spontaneity and the accidents. Some oil painting experience is helpful, yet the workshop is suitable for all levels of artists from beginner to advanced adults. Watch some instructive demos, practice making marks with the knife and you’ll begin creating fresher, looser paintings. Susan will cover a variety of subject matter to show how versatile this tool can be. Students will experiment with mediums to achieve transparent glazes and layering effects. Explore the possibilities of using this tool to unlock your creative freedom. Please come prepared with two (color) images of a landscape or subject that “brings you joy.” Also, bring paper towels and a bag lunch. All other supplies included with choice of 16” x 20” or 18” x 18” stretched canvas for final piece.
