Drawing from Observation
Practice drawing freehand from direct observation. The teacher will provide objects and simple exercises to help students learn and practice specific skills. Pencil, graphite sticks, charcoal or conte and washes will be used. This class will provide a foundation in drawing for other mediums.

Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain - Part I (4 weeks)
Learn “to see” in a new way with techniques to shift from our analytical left brain side to the more creative and artistic right brain. These techniques will trick your left brain to “let go”, allowing focus and development of perception, edges, spaces, light, shadow and relationship of objects.

I Can’t Draw but I Want to Learn
For students wishing to learn a comprehensive approach and develop a firm foundation in the fundamentals of realistic drawing. Learn accurate measurement, alignment, proportion, shading and textures. Expect significant improvement and a bit of homework.

Reflections and Shadows
Learn the magic of using light to create shadows in still life. With black pencil, students will work with surfaces that shine and those that absorb light (such as burlap) as well as those allowing light to pass through (crystal). Reward yourself and bring new vitality to your art after completing this class for all levels.

Sgraffito (5 weeks)
This class will introduce techniques used to create realistic images of landscapes or animals on black scratchboard. Using an exacto blade, students will do a subtractive drawing from reference photos. Emphasis will be on form, texture, light and dark contrast. Intermediate drawing experience recommended.

Explore Fall Landscapes with Aquabord
Aquabord is a new versatile rigid board for watercolor, permitting extensive corrections. Students will learn many new techniques, including lifting or scratching out areas. Additions of acrylic, pen and ink, and colored pencil can be placed on top of the watercolor surface. All levels welcome. |

You will learn layering, overlapping, the use of diagonals, changes in scale and blurred edges. The use of warm/cool colors and atmospheric perspective will tie it all together into a single powerful image.
