Drawing Skills
Skills taught in this class are essential for students to clearly and easily achieve an ability to draw realistically. Students will learn and understand contour lines, flat color, overlapping, and mirror image using Flair pens and markers. Repeating Drawing Skills classes in future sessions will usually include different drawing subjects and can be repeated numerous times to create a firm base.

Anime / Manga
Anime / Manga (Grades 6-12) ~ 4 weeks
Mondays, January 22-February 12, 6:15-7:45 pm Participants will explore styles of Manga, Anime and other comic arts. Telling stories though characterization and words (written or audible for films) will be explored. Drawing will include working from life, photos or mannequins. Cartooning
Cartooning Critters (Grades K-2) ~ 5 weeks
Tuesdays, January 16-February 13, 4:30-6:00 pm Learn to draw from animal toys and reference photos to gain understanding of how real animals “work” and then use simple shapes to create cartoon versions. Cartooning (Grades 3-5) ~ 5 weeks
Tuesdays, January 16-February 13, 6:15-7:45 pm Design your own cartoon characters while learning about basic pencil drawing skills and inking techniques. Learn from the “Masters” of cartooning to explore comic strips and single-panel “gag” cartoons, “pantomime” strips, “splash pages” and more. Game-like exercises will help to get us into each new aspect of cartooning that will encourage our creative writing as well. From Sketch to Finish (Grades 6-8) ~ 5 weeks
Thursdays, January 18-February 15, 6:15-7:45 pm Students will learn foundational drawing techniques such as shading, texture and perspective by first using graphite and ink, then working in color, to create a finished piece focusing on realism. Homeschool
Homeschool Foundations of Art (Ages 7-10) ~ 5 weeks
Thursdays, January 18-February 15, 9:30-11 am Students will learn a new foundational art skill each week which will incorporate art history. Lessons will include color theory, perspective, shading and more! Projects will include a yarn resist painting of a birch forest, a still life torn paper collage and a drawing of hot air balloons using perspective to create depth. (Wear old clothes!) Homeschool Teen Art (Ages 11-17) ~ 5 weeks
Thursdays, January 18-February 15, 11 am-12:30 pm Students will use a variety of media including collage, pastel and paint to explore realistic and expressive artistic techniques. Lessons will include color theory, perspective, shading and more! Projects include a still life drawing in pastel, an acrylic winter landscape painting and a mixed media abstract work on canvas. Multi-Media
Sculpt a Jester Stick (Grades 4-7) ~ 4 weeks
Mondays, January 22-February 12, 4:30-6:00 pm Students will explore drawing and sculpting to create a jester stick, which can be used to tell a story or share a joke. A jester stick is a sculpted head of any kind that is turned into a puppet. After completing a drawing, students will sculpt their own character (animal, person, magical or fantasy creature) in polymer clay, model magic or needle-felt in wool, with possible inclusion of a moving mouth. Stuff You Can't Do at Home (Grades 4-8) ~ 4 weeks
Tuesdays, January 23-February 13, 6:15-7:45 pm Students will explore and practice new techniques using different tools each week (plaster, glue guns, wood burning, etc.). Painting
Watercolor Painting (Grades 4-8) ~ 5 weeks

Sewing
Sew Easy (Grades 3-6) ~ 4 weeks
Wednesdays, January 17-February 7, 4:30-6 pm Yes, kids can safely sew on a machine! Learn all about how a machine works and then get sewing with simple projects like a pin cushion and small bags. We’ll also learn hand stitching utilizing embroidery thread and felt to create cute animals like a teddy bear, dogs and cats. Embellish with fun buttons, sequins, bling, fancy stitches and more. Choice of projects will include small pillows, bags, stuffed animals and more. All supply fees included in cost. Instructor: Christine Jewell Fee: $75 for Residents or $80 for Non-residents |
