Teaches: Acrylics; Pastels
Mally DeSomma’s life as an artist spans over thirty-five years, always searching for an interesting subject to capture on canvas. She considers herself lucky to be able to do the jobs she loves the most; to paint and to teach.
Through years of college courses, private instruction, and numerous workshops with many renowned artists, she has enjoyed and reaped many rewards throughout her career as an artist. For over twenty years Mally has taught pastels, acrylics, and oils to adults and children at Artsplace, a private art school in Cheshire, Connecticut and is now one of the anchor teachers there. Mally has also taught oils and pastels at the University of Connecticut Waterbury campus and privately in her own studio in Waterbury, Connecticut. Among other commitments and accomplishments, Mally serves on the board of the Finer Line Art Gallery in Mystic, Connecticut. She has received numerous commissions for figures, animals, and still life, has designed specialty cards for businesses and individuals, and has done artwork for catalog companies. Winner of many awards in juried art shows, Mally had won a top award at the 2009 national “Pastel Society of America” show in New York City. The award winning painting was chosen to be displayed January through March 2010 at The Butler Institute Museum in Ohio.
