Drawing Skills
Skills taught in this class are essential for students to clearly and easily achieve an ability to draw realistically. Students will learn and understand contour lines, flat color, overlapping, and mirror image using Flair pens and markers. Repeating Drawing Skills classes in future sessions will usually include different drawing subjects and can be repeated numerous times to create a firm base.

Anime / Manga
Anime / Manga (Grades 6-12) ~ 4 weeks
Mondays, March 4-25, 6:15-7:45 pm Participants will explore styles of Manga, Anime and other comic arts. Telling stories though characterization and words (written or audible for films) will be explored. Drawing will include working from life, photos or mannequins. Cartooning
Cartooning Critters (Grades K-2) ~ 4 weeks
Tuesdays, March 5-26, 4:30-6:00 pm OR Wednesdays, March 6-27, 4:30-6:00 pm Learn to draw from animal toys and reference photos to gain understanding of how real animals “work” and then use simple shapes to create cartoon versions. Cartooning (Grades 3-5) ~ 4 weeks
Tuesdays, March 5-26, 6:15-7:45 pm Design your own cartoon characters while learning about basic pencil drawing skills and inking techniques. Learn from the “Masters” of cartooning to explore comic strips and single-panel “gag” cartoons, “pantomime” strips, “splash pages” and more. Game-like exercises will help to get us into each new aspect of cartooning that will encourage our creative writing as well. Homeschool
Homeschool Foundations of Art (Ages 7-10) ~ 4 weeks
Thursdays, March 7-28, 9:30-11 am Students will learn a new foundational art skill each week which will incorporate art history. Lessons will include discussions of color theory, perspective, shading and more! Projects will include acrylic painting, oil pastel and watercolor painting and lessons that focus on drawing techniques. (Wear old clothes!) Homeschool Teen Art (Ages 11-17) ~ 4 weeks
Thursdays, March 7-28, 11 am-12:30 pm Students will use a variety of media including collage, pastel and paint to explore realistic and expressive artistic techniques. Lessons will include discussions of color theory, perspective, shading and more! Projects will include still life drawing and watercolor landscape painting. Illustration Fun
Illustration Fun (Grades 1-3) ~ 4 weeks

Multi-Media
Soft Sculpture (Grades 4-7) ~ 4 weeks
Mondays, March 4-25, 4:30-6:00 pm Create a poseable figure, puppet, creature or favorite animal. Soft colorful wool can be felted into three dimensional forms with a special barbed needle. Fabric and yarns may be added as embellishments to adorn your creations. Wire, string, wood and polymer clay can be used to help bring your character to life. No previous skills needed. Instructor will help with creature development and movement. Instructor: Robin McCahill Fee: $75 for Residents or $80 for Non-residents Stuff You Can't Do at Home (Grades 4-8) ~ 4 weeks Tuesdays, March 6-27, 6:15-7:45 pm Create a textured painting with hot glue and acrylic paint on canvas. Learn the safe use of tools that are appropriate for different mediums. Try your hand at paper clay sculpting. Learn the different types of printmaking. Sewing
Sew Easy (Grades 3-6) ~ 4 weeks
Wednesdays, March 6-27, 4:30-6 pm Yes, kids can safely sew on a machine! Learn all about how a machine works and then get sewing with simple projects like a pin cushion and small bags. We’ll also learn hand stitching utilizing embroidery thread and felt to create cute animals like a teddy bear, dogs and cats. Embellish with fun buttons, sequins, bling, fancy stitches and more. Choice of projects will include small pillows, bags, stuffed animals and more. All supply fees included in cost. Instructor: Christine Jewell Fee: $75 for Residents or $80 for Non-residents |
Storybook Art
Storybook Art (Grades K-1) ~ 4 weeks
Saturdays, March 2-23, 9-10 am
An illustrated storybook will be read each week, followed by a brief discussion about the illustrator’s characters and techniques. Students will create an art piece related to the book to bring home using paint, glue, oil pastels and more.
